Your guide to using La Cup Luneale

This interactive guide replaces the paper instruction leaflet and brings together everything you need to know to use and care for La Cup Luneale. Take your time going through it at your own pace: the first few uses take a little practice, which is perfectly normal.

Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS)

Toxic Shock Syndrome is an extremely rare but serious and potentially life-threatening illness. It can affect anyone, regardless of sex or age. It is caused by a toxin produced by the Staphylococcus aureus bacterium, which is naturally present on the skin and in the respiratory tract. Half of all cases occur during menstruation.

Symptoms
They do not all necessarily appear at the same time: high fever (39°C or above), headache or sore throat, vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness, fainting, muscle aches, sunburn-like rash.

If you experience symptoms:

  1. Remove La Cup immediately as a precaution.
  2. Contact a doctor without delay or go to the emergency room. Mention TSS and the fact that you are menstruating.
  3. If you have previously had TSS, consult your doctor before using internal menstrual protection again.

No direct link between menstrual cups and TSS has yet been demonstrated. Washing your hands thoroughly before each use remains the essential precaution.

Warnings

  • La Cup is not a contraceptive and does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
  • No sexual intercourse involving vaginal penetration should take place while it is being worn.

  • Maximum recommended wearing time: 6 consecutive hours.
  • La Cup can be kept in during urination or a bowel movement.

Adjustment Period

You have never used a menstrual cup

Generally allow 1 to 3 cycles to become familiar with the handling. It is recommended to try La Cup during the last days of your period, or outside of it (moistening it slightly), and to combine it at first with an external menstrual protection (panty liner, period underwear). For some people the learning curve is quick, for others it takes a few cycles. Both situations are normal.

You have already used a standard menstrual cup

La Cup Luneale works noticeably differently from standard cups: it does not need to be fully open to be effective.
This can sometimes give the impression that it is not properly positioned, which is not necessarily the case.
The following sections will guide you step by step.

La Cup at a glance

1. The upper ring Its teardrop-shaped profile ensures a leak-proof seal and a secure fit in the vagina. The flat outer side creates an extended contact area with the vaginal wall for maximum security. The angled inner side naturally directs flow into the receptacle.

2. The holes They allow air to enter during removal, which breaks the suction effect and makes extraction easier.

3. The receptacle This is where menstrual flow is collected. Its capacity varies by size ( S → 20 ml / M → 25 ml / L → 30 ml )

4. The MoonPad® Exclusive patented innovation by Luneale. It helps locate the base of La Cup, rotate it during insertion, and pinch it during removal.

La Cup Care

After purchase and between each cycle

Sterilisation

Method 1: The saucepan
Submerge La Cup for 5 minutes in a saucepan of boiling water.

Tip: place it inside a whisk so it does not touch the bottom.

Method 2: The microwave
Place La Cup in a glass jar filled with water, then heat at 600 W for 5 minutes.

After sterilisation:

  • For immediate use: rinse La Cup under cold water. Platinum silicone has high thermal inertia and cools quickly.
  • Otherwise: store it in its pouch until the next use.

When travelling or without access to equipment: A cold sterilisation tablet (such as baby bottle tablets) may be used, following the manufacturer's instructions.

During your period

Cleaning

Step 1: Empty La Cup
In the toilet, in the shower, over a sink, or outdoors.

Step 2: Rinse
Preferably use cold water (hot water tends to set blood pigments and could gradually stain the silicone.)

Which product to use?

  • Cold water alone is sufficient.
  • If you wish to use a cleaning product, its pH must be between 4 and 6.
  • ❌ Soap and shower gel: pH unsuitable for use with a menstrual cup.
  • ✅ Mousse Luneale is certified organic and specifically tested for silicone cups. Rinse thoroughly after use.

Maintenance tips

The holes are blocked Fill La Cup with water, place your hand flat on top and squeeze the receptacle: water will come out through the holes and unblock them. Watch out for splashing.

La Cup is cloudy or stained Soak it overnight in boiling water with the juice of half a lemon or a little white vinegar. Rinse thoroughly. See the full article ↗

Folding and inserting La Cup

Note before you begin: wash your hands thoroughly before handling La Cup.

The C Fold

Flatten La Cup, then fold it in half on itself. The folded side should be facing towards the back of the vagina during insertion.

The Tulip Fold (or Punchdown)

Push one edge of the ring inwards into the receptacle. The larger side should be facing towards the back of the vagina during insertion.

Inserting
La Cup

Insertion generally takes less than 10 seconds.

Key points:

The base of the MoonPad® should be located just past the vaginal opening.

If you can still feel La Cup, push it slightly further in by pressing on the base of the MoonPad®: it will position itself naturally.

The upper ring must be deployed for La Cup to be effective: this is the case as soon as it rotates without resistance.

Unlike standard menstrual cups, the receptacle of La Cup Luneale is more flexible and may remain slightly compressed without causing leaks: this is completely normal. If you think your cup is not opening ↗

Removing
La Cup

In most situations, La Cup is located about one finger-joint from the vaginal opening.

1. Pinch the MoonPad®: this introduces air through the holes and breaks the suction effect.
2. Pull gently with small back-and-forth movements.

If La Cup has moved up (this can happen depending on your anatomy or the movements of the day): sit on the toilet and push gently with your pelvic floor. La Cup will come down and become accessible again.
