Your guide to using Le Disque Luneale
This interactive guide brings together everything you need to know to use and care for Le Disque Luneale. The menstrual disc works differently from a cup: take time to read through each section before your first use.

Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS)
Toxic Shock Syndrome is an extremely rare but serious and potentially life-threatening illness. It can affect anyone, regardless of sex or age. It is caused by a toxin produced by the Staphylococcus aureus bacterium, which is naturally present on the skin and in the respiratory tract. Half of all cases occur during menstruation.
Symptoms
They do not all necessarily appear at the same time: high fever (39°C or above), headache or sore throat, vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness, fainting, muscle aches, sunburn-like rash.
If you experience symptoms:
- Remove Le Disque immediately as a precaution.
- Contact a doctor without delay or go to the emergency room. Mention TSS and the fact that you are menstruating.
- If you have previously had TSS, consult your doctor before using internal menstrual protection again.
No direct link between the menstrual disc and TSS has yet been demonstrated. Washing your hands thoroughly before each use remains the essential precaution.
Warnings
- Le Disque is not a contraceptive and does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
- After vaginal surgery (hysteroscopy, etc.): do not use Le Disque without the approval of your gynaecologist or midwife.
- In case of vaginal infection (confirmed or suspected), or if undergoing treatment with vaginal pessaries or cream: avoid all internal menstrual protection.
- Post-natal bleeding, after a miscarriage or termination: Le Disque is strictly contraindicated.
- After an episiotomy: wait until the scar has healed and the perineum has been rehabilitated.
- Never clean Le Disque in the dishwasher.
- Maximum recommended wearing time: 6 consecutive hours.
- Le Disque can be kept in during urination or a bowel movement.
- In case of intimate health conditions, consult your gynaecologist or midwife before use.
Adjustment Period
As with any new menstrual protection, we recommend combining Le Disque with period underwear or a panty liner during the first few uses.
Not out of a lack of confidence in the product, but because finding the right placement takes a little practice, and a discreet backup allows you to approach this learning phase calmly, without worrying about any incidents.
Le Disque at a glance
1. The notch
It makes it easier to fold Le Disque in half for insertion.
2. The ring
Firm enough to keep Le Disque securely in place.
3. The membrane
Extremely flexible and thin, it makes the device absolutely imperceptible.
4. The MoonDrop
A zone designed to easily grasp Le Disque for removal.

Caring for Le Disque
After purchase and between each cycle
Sterilisation
Method 1: The saucepan
Submerge Le Disque for 5 minutes in a saucepan of boiling water.
Method 2: The microwave
Place Le Disque in a glass jar filled with water, then heat at 600 W for 5 minutes.
After sterilisation:
- For immediate use: rinse Le Disque under cold water. Platinum silicone has high thermal inertia and cools quickly.
- Otherwise: store it in its pouch until the next use.
When travelling or without access to equipment: A cold sterilisation tablet (such as baby bottle tablets) may be used, following the manufacturer's instructions.
During your period
Cleaning
Step 1: Empty Le Disque
In the toilet, in the shower, over a sink, or outdoors.
Step 2: Rinse
Preferably use cold water (hot water tends to set blood pigments and could gradually stain the silicone.)
Which product to use?
- Cold water alone is sufficient.
- If you wish to use a cleaning product, its pH must be between 4 and 6.
- ❌ Soap and shower gel: pH unsuitable for use with a menstrual disc.
- ✅ Mousse Luneale is certified organic and specifically tested for silicone devices. Rinse thoroughly after use.

Inserting
Le Disque
Note before you begin: wash your hands thoroughly before handling Le Disque.
Step 1. Fold Le Disque in half The notch is there to make this gesture easier.
Step 2. Insert towards the back, notch first Insert the folded Le Disque into the vagina directing the notch towards the back. The back of the disc should slot in behind the cervix, in the posterior fornix (the vaginal vault).
Step 3. Lift the front Place your finger in the MoonDrop and push it upwards towards the front, until the front edge of the disc slots in behind the pubic bone. Le Disque is then horizontal: it is held naturally in place by your anatomy.
When correctly positioned, Le Disque cannot be felt. If it is still perceptible, it is probably not inserted far enough or not properly seated at the front. Repeat step 3.
Removing
Le Disque
Remove Le Disque only over the toilet or in the shower: it will be tilted during extraction and its contents may spill.
Step 1. Insert a finger Put a finger into the vagina, palm facing forward (towards the pubis).
Step 2. Hook the MoonDrop Place your finger in the MoonDrop. Make a small movement backwards then forwards to release Le Disque from behind the pubic bone.
Step 3. Slide out Remove Le Disque by sliding it gently towards the vaginal opening.
